The pathway out of family homelessness starts at New Hope
Across the country, family homelessness is rising—up by 16% according to the most recent national data. In many communities, family homelessness is hidden in plain sight with children and their parents sleeping in cars, moving between temporary arrangements, or remaining in unsafe situations to avoid being separated.
In Monroe County, the story is different.
Since opening our doors in 2011, New Hope for Families has built a proven pathway that helps children and their parents move from homelessness to lasting stability—keeping more families housed before they ever reach a point of crisis and ensuring that when homelessness does occur, the path back to stability begins immediately.
In 2023, this mom and her 8-month-old moved from shelter to stable housing and have remained enrolled in New Hope’s Early Learning Center. Today, mom has a salaried job in social services, giving back to families like her own.
When families can access what works, homelessness becomes brief and surmountable, not defining.
New Hope provides a coordinated pathway that moves both children and their parents from crisis to lasting stability.
Preventing homelessness before it begins
Providing safe shelter where families stay together
Supporting parents as they secure stable housing
Offering high-quality early learning so children get the start in life they deserve
In 2024, this family of four (boys ages 2 and 8) moved into stable housing.
Stable housing for families and high-quality early childhood education are some of the most powerful investments a community can make
Housing stability saves taxpayer money, increases employment, reduces crime, and improves health for children and families.
Every dollar invested in early childhood education yields a 4-9x return.
More than 90% of brain development occurs before age 5, which is also when Americans are likeliest to experience the trauma of homelessness, making investments in stability and excellent early learning critical to long-term success.
New Hope prevented homelessness for this 2-year-old boy and supported his family through his years in the Early Learning Center until kindergarten.
